5,300 meters! Sinopec drills China’s deepest shale well, hits massive daily flow

Successful test of a 5300-metre-deep shale gas well in Sichuan marks a key technical leap in China’s shale development.

Sinopec, China’s largest shale producer, has reported a major breakthrough in ultra-deep shale gas exploration, with a record-setting well in the Sichuan basin flowing commercial gas volumes during test.

Hat the Tiebei 1-HF well on the Puguang asset in the Sichuan basin reached a vertical depth of more than 5300 metres — the deepest vertical shale gas well recorded in China.

Initial tests showed a strong daily commercial gas flow rate of 314,500 cubic metres.
