China’s first national-level continental shale oil demonstration zone has fully completed its construction tasks!

On December 9th, China National Petroleum Corporation announced that the Xinjiang Jimsar National Continental Shale Oil Demonstration Zone—China’s first national-level continental shale oil demonstration zone—has exceeded 1.7 million metric tons in crude oil production this year, marking the full completion of its national demonstration project construction tasks.

Shale oil is internationally recognized as an extremely difficult-to-extract unconventional oil and gas resource. The Jimsar shale oil reservoir is characterized by great burial depth (over 3,800 meters) and extremely low permeability (only one ten-thousandth of that of a conventional reservoir). Its exploration and development face multiple world-class technological challenges. The Xinjiang Jimsar National Continental Shale Oil Demonstration Zone was jointly approved for establishment in 2020 by the National Energy Administration and the Ministry of Natural Resources. It covers an area of 1,278 square kilometers and has a resource volume exceeding 10 billion tons.

“Since 2020, we have cumulatively drilled 472 new wells and performed fracturing operations on 451 wells, driving the demonstration zone’s annual production to increase from 116,000 tons in 2019 to over 1.7 million tons this year. This year’s production target was achieved 22 days ahead of schedule,” said Du Xuebiao, manager of the operation area at China National Petroleum Corporation’s Xinjiang Oilfield Jiqing Oilfield Operations. He introduced that the demonstration zone is jointly developed by Xinjiang Oilfield and Turpan-Hami Oilfield. According to the plan, by 2025 when the demonstration zone is fully completed, Xinjiang Oilfield is expected to achieve an annual production of 1.4 million tons, and Turpan-Hami Oilfield 300,000 tons.

China has currently established three national shale oil demonstration zones, including the Xinjiang Jimsar National Continental Shale Oil Demonstration Zone, the Daqing Gulong Continental Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone, and the Shengli Jiyang Shale Oil National Demonstration Zone.

Shale gas desanding refers to the process of removing solid impurities such as sand grains, fracturing sand (proppant), and rock cuttings from shale gas streams (with entrained water) through physical or mechanical methods during shale gas extraction and production.
As shale gas is primarily obtained through hydraulic fracturing technology (fracturing extraction), the returned fluid often contains large amounts of sand grains from the formation and residual solid ceramic particles from fracturing operations. If these solid particles are not completely separated early in the process flow, they would cause severe erosion to pipelines, valves, compressors and other equipment, or lead to pipeline blockages in low-lying sections, clogging of instrument pressure guide pipes, or trigger production safety incidents.

Our new product——The High Efficiency Ultra-Fine Particle Desander is a liquid-solid separation device that utilizes an efficient centrifugal principle to separate suspended impurities—such as solids in produced water, seawater, condensate, fine particles in high-viscosity liquids, and catalyst powder in reactors—from fluids (liquids, gases, or gas-liquid mixtures). It effectively removes solid particles with sizes down to 2 microns (at 98% efficiency) or smaller.
The High Efficiency Ultra-Fine Particle Desander delivers high sand removal efficiency, capable of removing solid particles down to 2 microns.
