China’s First Unmanned Platform for Remote Offshore Heavy Oil production Put into Operation

On May 3, the PY 11-12 platform in the eastern South China Sea was successfully commissioned. This marks China’s first unmanned platform for the remote operation of an offshore heavy oil field, achieving new breakthroughs in typhoon-resistant production mode, remote resumption of operations, and heavy crude oil processing, and other areas.
The platform features intelligent oil production, smart equipment maintenance, and AI-powered security systems. Compared to traditional development models, its unmanned design with no permanent on-site personnel significantly reduces both initial investment and operational costs.
The PY 11-12 platform is to processing heavy crude oil that is heavier and poor fluidity and difficult of separation. Building upon typhoon-resistant production mode, the platform integrates the intelligent heavy oil processing system that includes oil-gas separation, heating, and boost-pumps for export. It enables simultaneous remote operations from both the central platform and on-shore control center, featuring capabilities such as remote well logging, well shutdonw, and production restoration.

Our company has unique technology and experience in heavy oil production separation (SAGD) desanding. We are constantly working on the development of more efficient, compact and cost-effective separation equipment, while focusing on environmental innovations. For example, our high-efficiency, long-life cyclone desander made of advanced ceramic wear-resistant materials (also known as high-erosion and wear-resistant materials) can achieve 98% desanding efficiency (minimum removal of particle size of 0.5 microns). It has a more practical significance for the use of separation and desanding on the seabed in deep-sea.
