Introduction to Desanders
A desander serves as a critical component in mining and drilling operations. This specialized solid control equipment utilizes multiple hydrocyclones to effectively remove sand and silt particles from drilling fluids. Typically installed atop the sludge tank in the processing sequence - positioned after the shale shaker and degasser but before the desilter - desanders play a vital role in fluid purification systems. In oil and gas applications where they're commonly deployed at wellheads, these units are frequently referred to as wellhead desanders. Operating Principle
As fundamental solid control devices, cyclonic desanders and desilters employ centrifugal separation technology without any moving parts. The system generates powerful centrifugal forces by converting the residual hydraulic head into a high-velocity rotational flow within conical chambers. This process causes solids to migrate toward the cone walls proportionally to their mass, exiting as underflow through the bottom discharge. Simultaneously, purified liquid and fine particles return via the overflow outlet at the cone's apex.
