Recently, there has been major exciting news from oil and gas exploration in Xinjiang! The exploration project of the oil and gas campaign in the Dabancheng area of Urumqi has achieved a breakthrough, with preliminary assessments indicating natural gas geological resources exceeding 200 billion cubic meters. This demonstrates the potential to form a large oil and gas field, marking a new breakthrough in oil and gas exploration in northern Xinjiang.
The oil and gas campaign project in the Dabancheng area of Urumqi includes seven blocks, such as the northern margin of the Chaiwopu Sag and the Yongfeng North and South blocks. Preliminary assessments indicate that the natural gas geological resources exceed 200 billion cubic meters, with the northern margin of the Chaiwopu Sag alone accounting for over 100 billion cubic meters.
Currently, the exploration of the oil and gas field in the northern margin of the Chaiwopu Sag has completed drilling operations for four wells, with the drilling of Well Chaitan-6 nearing completion. The collected samples have been immediately sent to the laboratory for analysis, providing data support for the assessment of deep oil and gas resources in the region. According to Lü Baoguang, project manager of the Xinjiang Branch of Henan Yuzhong Geological Exploration Engineering Co., Ltd., Well Chaitan-6 had a designed depth of 3,100 meters and an actual drilling depth of 3,088 meters. Four coring operations were conducted between 2,000 and 3,000 meters, revealing varying degrees of oil and gas discoveries. The implementation of this well has provided detailed geological data for regional exploration and development planning.
In recent years, Xinjiang has accelerated the pace of oil and gas exploration in the Dabancheng area of Urumqi, with a total of 15 exploration wells deployed across seven blocks, including the northern margin of the Chaiwopu Sag. Of these, 11 wells have been successfully drilled.
The northern margin block of the Chaiwopu Sag has released a public transfer announcement. The Dabancheng area is expected to offer 3 to 4 additional blocks for transfer, with registered natural gas geological resources amounting to 200 billion cubic meters. If successfully developed, this could effectively ease the natural gas supply strain in Urumqi and surrounding areas for at least two decades.
According to the technical lead of the Oil and Gas Exploration Institute at the Urumqi Geological Team of the Xinjiang Geological Bureau, the northern margin of the Chaiwopu Sag belongs to the southern front thrust nappe of the Bogda Mountains, characterized by complex geological structures. Five wells have been drilled in this area, among which Well Chaitan-2 reached a depth of 4,700 meters and covered the entire Lucao Gou section. This has provided solid geological data to support subsequent work and research.

The extraction of oil and natural gas cannot be achieved without desanders.
Shanghai Shangjiang Petroleum Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. established in Shanghai in 2016, is a modern technology enterprise integrating R&D, design, production, and service. We are dedicated to developing separation and filtration equipment for the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Our high-efficiency product portfolio includes de-oiling/dewatering hydrocyclones, desanders for micron-sized particles, and compact flotation units. We provide complete skid-mounted solutions and also offer third-party equipment retrofitting and after-sales services. Holding multiple proprietary patents and operating under a DNV-GL certified ISO-9001, ISO-14001, and ISO-45001 management system, we deliver optimized process solutions, precise product design, strict adherence to engineering specifications, and ongoing operational support.

Our high-efficiency cyclone desanders, renowned for their exceptional 98% separation rate, have earned recognition from international energy leaders. Constructed with advanced wear-resistant ceramics, these units achieve 98% removal of particles as fine as 0.5 microns in gas streams. This capability enables the reinjection of produced gas for miscible flooding in low-permeability reservoirs, a key solution for enhancing oil recovery in challenging formations. Alternatively, they can treat produced water, removing 98% of particles larger than 2 microns for direct reinjection, thereby boosting water-flood efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
Proven in major global fields operated by CNOOC, CNPC, Petronas, and others across Southeast Asia, SJPEE desanders are deployed on wellhead and production platforms. They provide reliable solids removal from gas, well fluids, and condensate, and are critical for seawater purification, production stream protection, and water injection/flooding programs.
Beyond desanders, SJPEE offers a portfolio of acclaimed separation technologies. Our product line includes membrane systems for natural gas CO₂ removal, deoiling hydrocyclones, high-performance compact flotation units (CFUs), and multi-chamber hydrocyclones, delivering comprehensive solutions for the industry’s toughest challenges.
