As of early November, the Huizhou 21-1 platform – the first platform built and put into operation in the Eastern South China Sea Oilfield – had produced over 13 million tonnes of oil equivalent, significantly exceeding the original development plan’s projections and providing a solid guarantee for the energy supply of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A Balanced Oil and Gas Strategy Yields a Production Breakthrough
The Huizhou 21-1 platform commenced production in September 1990. In its early stages, the platform innovatively adopted a strategy of “joint development with fewer high-yield wells,” achieving an annual crude oil output of over one million tonnes as early as 1991. In 2005, following the completion and commissioning of the Huizhou 21-1B platform, the facility began producing both oil and gas, reaching a peak daily natural gas output of 1.2 million cubic meters.

As the field matured, it encountered challenges such as depleting gas reservoir energy and the difficulty of developing low-permeability oil reservoirs. The platform team launched a technical initiative to address these issues. By converting production wells to water injection wells to replenish reservoir energy and optimizing production processes for depressurization development, they significantly enhanced gas recovery rates. For low-permeability wells, deep acidizing operations were successfully conducted to resolve reservoir clogging. Additionally, innovative techniques were applied to revive “dormant” gas wells, successfully bringing old wells back to life. These efforts have ensured the field’s stable production capacity continues into its middle-to-late stages of development.
Digital Transformation Enhances Management Efficiency
In recent years, through the comprehensive advancement of its digital and intelligent transformation, the platform has implemented upgrades and modifications to key equipment such as flares, associated gas recovery compressors, and central air conditioning systems. These efforts have halved associated gas emissions while significantly enhancing overall system reliability. Furthermore, by leveraging the typhoon mode production strategy, the oilfield has strengthened its core operational capabilities.

In terms of management innovation, the platform independently developed an “Equipment Status Tagging” system, which improved field personnel’s efficiency in identifying equipment status by 40%. Additionally, the platform implemented a “Six-Check” competency model assessment to accurately identify and address employees’ skill gaps, thereby driving continuous skill development. These initiatives have provided strong support for the platform’s ongoing operational optimization.

The extraction of oil and natural gas cannot be achieved without separation equipment.
Shanghai Shangjiang Petroleum Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. established in Shanghai in 2016, is a modern technology enterprise integrating R&D, design, production, and service. We are dedicated to developing separation and filtration equipment for the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Our high-efficiency product portfolio includes de-oiling/dewatering hydrocyclones, desanders for micron-sized particles, and compact flotation units. We provide complete skid-mounted solutions and also offer third-party equipment retrofitting and after-sales services. Holding multiple proprietary patents and operating under a DNV-GL certified ISO-9001, ISO-14001, and ISO-45001 management system, we deliver optimized process solutions, precise product design, strict adherence to engineering specifications, and ongoing operational support.

Our high-efficiency cyclone desanders, renowned for their exceptional 98% separation rate, have earned recognition from international energy leaders. Constructed with advanced wear-resistant ceramics, these units achieve 98% removal of particles as fine as 0.5 microns in gas streams. This capability enables the reinjection of produced gas for miscible flooding in low-permeability reservoirs, a key solution for enhancing oil recovery in challenging formations. Alternatively, they can treat produced water, removing 98% of particles larger than 2 microns for direct reinjection, thereby boosting water-flood efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
Proven in major global fields operated by CNOOC, CNPC, Petronas, and others across Southeast Asia, SJPEE desanders are deployed on wellhead and production platforms. They provide reliable solids removal from gas, well fluids, and condensate, and are critical for seawater purification, production stream protection, and water injection/flooding programs.
Beyond desanders, SJPEE offers a portfolio of acclaimed separation technologies. Our product line includes membrane systems for natural gas CO₂ removal, deoiling hydrocyclones, high-performance compact flotation units (CFUs), and multi-chamber hydrocyclones, delivering comprehensive solutions for the industry’s toughest challenges.
