Petrobras released its third-quarter operational and production data, confirming that 12 new production wells were put into operation between July and September, with six in the Campos Basin and six in the Santos Basin. As the P-78 and P-79 FPSOs at the Búzios field continued to ramp up output and new production capacity was unlocked at the Mero field, the company’s average daily production of own crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids reached 3.512 million barrels of oil equivalent, up 11.7% year on year.
The fifth FPSO at the Mero field, Alexandre de Gusmão, reached its original design capacity of 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day on August 25; after capacity-enhancement measures and approval from regulatory and environmental authorities, it set a new high of 190,000 barrels of crude oil per day on September 3. The Sepetiba FPSO at the same field also reached a peak of 212,000 barrels of crude oil per day in September, exceeding its original design processing capacity of 180,000 barrels per day.
The Almirante Tamandaré FPSO at the Búzios field set a record average monthly output of 263,000 barrels of crude oil per day in July. In the third quarter, average gas offtake from the field’s production platforms exceeded 11 million cubic meters per day for the first time. Average daily output across all oil and gas assets operated by Petrobras in the same period reached 5.08 million barrels of oil equivalent, with pre-salt oil and gas assets averaging 4.46 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The next expansion phase at the Búzios field involves the P-80 and P-82 FPSOs, which departed the Tuas Boulevard shipyard in Singapore on September 30 and October 18, respectively, for Brazilian waters. Each unit has a rated crude oil capacity of 225,000 barrels per day and a gas compression capacity of 12 million cubic meters per day, with startup planned for 2027; they will become the ninth and tenth production platforms at the Búzios field, respectively.

The extraction of oil and natural gas cannot be achieved without separation equipment.
