Xinjiang Oilfield’s Jimsar shale oil drilling breaks two domestic records

On May 3, the JHW92-12 well of the Jimsar shale oil field in the Jiqing Oilfield Operation District of Xinjiang Oilfield was successfully completed. With hardcore technology and efficient construction, it broke two domestic shale oil drilling records, adding strong momentum to the efficient development of the national continental shale oil demonstration zone.

The well has a total depth of 6,223 meters and was completed in just two trips. Among them, the vertical section, deviated section, and horizontal section were drilled in “one trip,” with footage of 4,223 meters, breaking the domestic record for the longest “one trip” footage in shale oil drilling. The entire well drilling cycle was only 13.67 days, setting a new domestic record for the shortest drilling cycle for shale oil wells at the same depth, leading the industry in both construction efficiency and engineering quality.

The Jimsar Shale Oil Demonstration Zone is China’s first national continental shale oil demonstration zone and a key battleground for increasing reserves and production of unconventional oil and gas. The reservoir in this area is deeply buried, structurally complex, and has extremely low permeability. During construction, problems such as formation loss and difficulty in trajectory control are prone to occur, imposing extremely high requirements on drilling technology and on-site management. The efficient completion of this well fully demonstrates the maturity and reliability of the collaborative operation system and optimized fast drilling technology, providing replicable and scalable practical experience for the large-scale development of deep shale oil in China.

To achieve safe and efficient drilling, the project team established an efficient collaboration mechanism of “construction unit leading, construction unit implementing, technical unit supporting,” implementing closed-loop control throughout the entire process. In the early stage, joint experts from multiple departments conducted thematic discussions to accurately analyze the geological loss model, reducing construction risks from the source; simultaneously optimized the drilling plan, scientifically determined bit selection and bottom hole assembly, and used a “rotary steerable + screw” combination in the second section to further increase drilling speed.

This capability enables the reinjection of produced gas for miscible flooding in low-permeability reservoirs, a key solution for enhancing oil recovery in challenging formations. Alternatively, they can treat produced water, removing 98% of particles larger than 2 microns for direct reinjection, thereby boosting water-flood efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

High-Efficiency-Ultra-Fine-Particle-Desander

Our new product——The High Efficiency Ultra-Fine Particle Desander is a liquid-solid separation device that utilizes an efficient centrifugal principle to separate suspended impurities—such as solids in produced water, seawater, condensate, fine particles in high-viscosity liquids, and catalyst powder in reactors—from fluids (liquids, gases, or gas-liquid mixtures). It effectively removes solid particles with sizes down to 2 microns (at 98% efficiency) or smaller.
The High Efficiency Ultra-Fine Particle Desander delivers high sand removal efficiency, capable of removing solid particles down to 2 microns. The equipment features a compact footprint, requires no external power or chemical additives, and has a service life of approximately 20 years. It offers online sand discharge capability without the need for production shutdown.
Proven in major global fields operated by CNOOC, CNPC, Petronas, and others across Southeast Asia, SJPEE desanders are deployed on wellhead and production platforms. They provide reliable solids removal from gas, well fluids, and condensate, and are critical for seawater purification, production stream protection, and water injection/flooding programs.
